The Ice Has Melted
So this week I talked about how I’m not really into Valentine’s Day . But in the spirit of the obligatory holiday Mom sweater, or the I never thought I’d use the words cheer or coach to describe myself, or the fact that I feel the need to spontaneously take pictures of my sleeping children, this week I broke down and hit the store to buy Valentine’s cards and treats for the kids.
So Valentine’s morning arrived, and I went to each of the kids rooms to give them their cards and treats. Each meticulously read aloud their cards and hugged me with such fervor that I felt it, the ice around my anti-Valentine heart melting. Then they each went to a secret hiding place in their room and pulled out homemade Valentine’s treats that they had each gotten up at the crack of dawn today to make for me and their Father. As I looked at the coupons of love from my son and the homemade card from my daughter with 8 million “X’s” and “O’s” the ice melted completely. Instead I felt a comforting warm glow.
I guess what I’m saying is this. Valentine’s Day, it’s still a stupid holiday if you look at it through the jaded eyes of marketers, sappy card writers, or adults in general. But if you look at it through the eyes of a child…well that’s a whole other holiday. And it’s a pretty good one after all.

My friend Lucy at I’m the Loud Friend wrote a post about a Self Love Day. Basically you have to write about something you love about yourself and then your readers tell you what they love about you. How awesome is that? Especially if your a total comment whore like myself. So let’s see…I love that I don’t try to take life to seriously and every time I’m in a Woa is Me mode I try desperately hard to find the sense of humor in a situation.
Wow. Lucy is right. That is hard to do.
Anyway, why don’t you join me in a little self-love. Comment below, and I’ll be sure to follow!
